Questions & Answers
Why boycott American products?
Boycotting American products is the best option we, as European citizens, have to counter the Trump administration.
- There’s strength in numbers: a sustained boycott by European citizens will lead to a decrease in the profits of large American multinationals and their shareholders, which will affect the US GDP and force the business community to put additional pressure on the Trump administration.
- This method also spares American citizens, more than half of whom (including abstainers) did not vote for Trump.
- Finally, a boycott of American products will be an opportunity for everyone to reconsider their consumption patterns, favoring more local consumption, which is, by definition, less harmful to the environment.
Why is the regularly raised threat of considerable job losses in the event of a boycott, under the pretext that some American companies have subsidiaries established in Europe, so implausible?
- First, the boycott movement would have to be massive before it could potentially produce such an impact.
- There’s no guarantee that the affected American companies will immediately cut their payroll. They could just as easily decide to wait and see how events unfold.
- There’s a lot of talk about potentially endangered jobs, but strangely, no one mentions all the jobs that would be gained based on a principle of communicating vessels, since new European companies would gain new market share at the expense of American companies. This obviously requires consuming local or regional products instead.
However, if all these arguments haven’t completely convinced you, you still have the option of narrowing your boycott by targeting only American companies that have very few, if any, subsidiaries on the European continent. Luckily, a ready-made list is available for you.
Why isn’t Hollywood included in our lists of American products to boycott?
No art form should ever be boycotted, under any circumstances. This is also why you won’t find any streaming platforms in our lists, even though they are overwhelmingly American.
Why haven’t we included the pharmaceutical and medical sectors in our lists of American products to boycott?
Simply because health takes precedence over any economic considerations, and there aren’t necessarily equivalents products. If you still wish to boycott American companies active in the pharmaceutical and medical sectors, talk to your doctor first and make sure you’re not putting your health at risk!
